The NFL is planning to make a huge statement when the season kicks off \u2026 with the league reportedly deciding to play the Black National Anthem before every Week 1 game.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

\u201cLift Ev\u2019ry Voice And Sing\u201d \u2014 which is often referred to as the Black National Anthem \u2014 will be played before the \u2018Star-Spangled Banner\u2019 prior to every game in the first week of the season, according to ESPN<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

It was originally written as a poem by African-American civil rights leader James Weldon Johnson<\/strong> in 1899 \u2014 and later set to music by his brother John Rosamond Johnson.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

It was first performed in public as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln\u2019s Birthday on February 12, 1900, according to the NAACP<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Several NBA teams have played the song during Black History Month over the years \u2014 and Beyonce<\/strong><\/a> famously performed part of it during her iconic Coachella performance in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Of course, Roger Goodell<\/strong><\/a> recently apologized for the way<\/strong><\/a> the league handled the Colin Kaepernick<\/strong><\/a>-led anthem protests<\/strong><\/a> \u2026 and vowed to help spread awareness for the Black Lives Matter movement.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Along with making a statement against racism, the league also vowed to donate $250 million to social justice organizations.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

The NFL is also considering adding names of victims of police brutality to uniforms with helmet decals or jersey patches.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

As for the anthem protests \u2026 huge names like Adrian Peterson<\/strong><\/a>, Baker Mayfield<\/strong><\/a> and Bill O\u2019Brien<\/strong><\/a> have already made it clear they will kneel.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n
