Care.com gets 6.4 million unique visitors each month, with a new job posted on there every 30 seconds. So it\u2019s pretty popular.<\/p>\n<p>Caregivers can post their services on the site and get in touch with families they think they could help. Families can post their caregiving needs on the site, whether they\u2019re looking to hire someone on an ongoing basis or just for a single date night. They can contact caregivers nearby who they believe would be a good fit.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an interesting concept that makes finding a care a whole lot easier for families and opens up more work opportunities for caregivers.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_care_seekers_Types_of_help_you_can_hire\"\/>For care seekers: Types of help you can hire<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>While Care.com might be more associated with babysitters than anything else, you can actually hire lots of different caregivers and help, like:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nannies<\/li>\n<li>Senior care specialists<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/moneypantry.com\/house-sitting-jobs\/\">House-sitters<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Pet-sitters<\/li>\n<li>Housekeepers<\/li>\n<li>Tutors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can even find people to help you to <a href=\"https:\/\/moneypantry.com\/apps-like-taskrabbit\/\">run errands.<\/a> So the site really is useful for finding caregivers in lots of different categories.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_caregivers_Types_of_work_available\"\/>For caregivers: Types of work available<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Many caregivers use Care.com to find work. These are useful for both caregivers and care seekers alike.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rate_calculators\"\/>Rate calculators<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re just starting out as a caregiver, it can be though to know what to charge for your services. Just as it can be tough to know how much to pay someone for their services if you\u2019re looking to hire a caregiver.<\/p>\n<p>Handily enough, the company provides you with useful rate calculators. You can use these to calculate an appropriate rate based on factors like services, experience, zip code, and hours per week.<\/p>\n<p>The site offers a rate calculator for each job type as well, which is so useful.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the rate calculators:<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Informative_blog_posts\"\/>Informative blog posts<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>Care.com has a huge range of articles and guides that cover a variety of care topics.<\/p>\n<p>The site\u2019s resources are broken down into four categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Child Care<\/li>\n<li>Senior Care<\/li>\n<li>Home Care<\/li>\n<li>Pet Care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can view all of the site\u2019s guides and articles <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/c\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This can be really useful for both caregivers and care seekers.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Care_com_Memberships\"\/>Care.com Memberships<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>The site has a few different membership types. You can sign up to the site for free, but it\u2019s pretty limited in terms of what you can do.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the Care.com membership types:<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Family_Basic_Membership\"\/>Family Basic Membership<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>Families looking to hire help can choose the basic membership option. This is free.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Family_Premium_Membership\"\/>Family Premium Membership<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>You can get access to more features with a Premium Membership. You can pay for it for one month, three months, or twelve months. The cost of each works out differently:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$39 for one month.<\/li>\n<li>$57 for three months, which works out at $19 a month.<\/li>\n<li>$132 for twelve months, which works out at $11 a month.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Background_Checks\"\/>Background Checks<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>You can pay to run background checks on people who you hire. Depending on how in-depth of a background check you want to run, it can cost as much as $300.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Caregiver_premium_membership\"\/>Caregiver premium membership<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>This membership type is for caregivers. A caregiver premium membership costs $20 a month. You can also choose to pay for extra services, like providing a background check or paying to appear at the top of people\u2019s lists.<\/p>\n<p>Like I said above, the free membership is very basic. While basic memberships include job posting, searching and getting applications from local caregivers, if you actually want to get in touch with candidates or employers who reach out to you, you need to pay for the site\u2019s premium membership.<\/p>\n<p>The site auto-renews your membership without notifying you.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Does_Care_com_Work\"\/>How Does Care.com Work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>So now you know what Care.com is and how much it costs, you\u2019re probably wondering, how does it work?<\/p>\n<p>Below, I\u2019ll cover how it works for caregivers and care seekers. So just go to the section that\u2019s appropriate for you.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_care_seekers\"\/>For care seekers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>You can use Care.com to find caregivers near you, as I mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s how:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Care.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On the homepage, under where it says, \u201cI need a caregiver,\u201d click on \u201cFind Care.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Then you\u2019ll be asked who is going to need care and you can choose from \u201cMy Kids,\u201d \u201cMy Parents,\u201d \u201cMy Pets,\u201d or \u201cMy Home.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve chosen the right option for you, you\u2019ll need to filter results by things like whether you want a babysitter to be college educated, for example. Or whether you want a candidate to be CPR trained or how many years of experience you want your caregiver to have.<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll also be asked about whether you are looking to hire ASAP, within a week, within a month, or if you\u2019re just browsing.<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve made all your selections, the site will ask you to enter your name, zip code and email to create your account.<\/li>\n<li>When your account is created, you can start browsing caregivers in your area. Like I said above, if you just have the basic membership, you may find that candidates get in touch with you, but you can\u2019t contact them back. So you\u2019ll need to pay for a premium membership if you actually want to get in touch with potential caregivers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"For_caregivers\"\/>For caregivers<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Okay, whether you\u2019re looking for babysitting work or <a href=\"https:\/\/moneypantry.com\/online-tutoring-jobs\/\">tutoring jobs<\/a>, Care.com can be useful for you.<\/p>\n<p>With the site, you can search for caregiving jobs in multiple categories, from pet-sitting to babysitting, as I mentioned above.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re a caregiver, here\u2019s how you can find work on Care.com:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Visit <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Care.com<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>On the homepage, under where it says, \u201cI want a care job,\u201d click on \u201cFind Jobs.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>You\u2019ll then be asked what kind of services you offer. So you can choose from things like, \u201cBabysitter or Nanny,\u201d \u201cSenior Care &amp; Nursing,\u201d \u201cTutor &amp; Private Lessons,\u201d and \u201cHousekeeping.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>At this stage, you\u2019ll only be able to choose one option. But don\u2019t worry if you want to offer more than one type of service. You can add more services once you create your larger profile.<\/li>\n<li>Once you\u2019ve selected an option, you\u2019ll be asked whether you\u2019re an individual or small business.<\/li>\n<li>Next, you\u2019ll need to enter your name, address and email address to create your account.<\/li>\n<li>There are no requirements to join the site. But you\u2019ll need to make sure you\u2019re qualified for the position you\u2019re interested in. The site will ask you to state your experience and references for the position.<\/li>\n<li>You will also be asked to provide any proof of certification, background checks, and any related documents. The customer care team will approve your paperwork to make sure you\u2019re uploading legitimate documents.<\/li>\n<li>Now you\u2019ll be able to set your rates, choose your availability and browse jobs near you.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you include a recent photo of yourself and any references you have to help you to land work on the site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Customer_service\"\/>Customer service<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>If you need assistance on the site, you can get in touch with the customer service team. You can contact Care.com by phone at 1 (877) 277-3115.<\/p>\n<p>The customer service team is available from Monday to Friday from 8 am to 6 pm EST.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_Care_com_Safe\"\/>Is Care.com Safe?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>There have been concerns raised over the safety of Care.com, both for caregivers and care seekers.<\/p>\n<p>In March 2019, the WSJ published a report of Care.com, citing that the website says families are responsible for ensuring background checks are performed, with sometimes tragic outcomes, like theft and assault.<\/p>\n<p>You can read the report from the WSJ <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/care-com-puts-onus-on-families-to-check-caregivers-backgroundswith-sometimes-tragic-outcomes-11552088138\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Of course this is somewhat of a worry.<\/p>\n<p>In May, 2019 the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/care-com-to-enhance-screening-for-caregivers-11557412673\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WSJ reported<\/a> that the site had plans to up their vetting process.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the website has something called a CareCheck. Caregivers who complete this background check will have a CareCheck badge on their profile, which displays the date the CareCheck was run.<\/p>\n<p>However, the site still recommends that families carry out their own background checks.<\/p>\n<p>Care.com has a useful article on background checks, which you can read <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/background-checks\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While there are some safety concerns. The site does try to provide useful information on safety in its <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/safety\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Safety Center<\/a>. These articles can help you to ensure that you choose the best candidate and they offer guides on how to stay safe during the interviewing process.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Care_com_Reviews_Ratings\"\/>Care.com Reviews &amp; Ratings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>Okay, so now you know how the site works, you\u2019re probably wondering what Care.com\u2019s users have to say about the site.<\/p>\n<p>After all, the best way to know if a site is legit or not is to read about other people\u2019s experiences with it.<\/p>\n<p>In this section, I\u2019ll cover Care.com\u2019s ratings and reviews on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trustpilot<\/li>\n<li>Sitejabber<\/li>\n<li>Better Business Bureau<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trustpilot_reviews\"\/>Trustpilot reviews<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Okay, let\u2019s start out with Trustpilot. You only need to have a quick glance at the company\u2019s page on there to see customers are not happy with the comapny.<\/p>\n<p>The site has an abysmal 1.2 stars, which is a rating of \u201cBad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So that\u2019s not a good start. Delve into the reviews a little and you\u2019ll see lots of complaints.<\/p>\n<p>The most common complaint I saw about Care.com was that it keeps charging people for their membership, even after the person cancels it.<\/p>\n<p>One user says:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cI canceled my membership and they continued to bill me. I canceled the credit card and they jumped on my new one! Despicable. Untrustworthy\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are many reviews like this, and one customer even said that they had to block and change their card to stop the site charging them.<\/p>\n<p>Another user claims they were charged even without signing up for a paid membership:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cCharged for Premium without my knowledge. If you sign up for the basic membership and give them your credit card, they will automatically upgrade you to a $27\/mo. Premium Membership without notifying you and start charging your card in perpetuity. When I called them to stop this and asked for a refund. They said they were refunding my credit card (never happened) and downgrading my membership to the free basic (never happened). Don\u2019t use this site.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall, it\u2019s not good.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can read Care.com reviews on Trustpilot <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trustpilot.com\/review\/care.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reviews_on_Sitejabber\"\/>Reviews on Sitejabber<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Next up is Sitejabber, and on there it\u2019s a pretty similar story to what you find on Trustpilot.<\/p>\n<p>Care.com has a whole 1.2 stars.<\/p>\n<p>Again, people complain that they are being charged, even after they cancel their membership.<\/p>\n<p>Also, there were quite a few caregivers who complained that their accounts were closed for no reason.<\/p>\n<p>One user says:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cI started an account recently, went through the process, got verified, applied for jobs, and then all of a sudden a get an email that my account was closed, with no reason given (just a list of possible reasons, none of which apply to me) and no recourse available. After researching on Consumerist.com, I found a lady who was kicked off while interviewing nannies. Apparently, ANYONE can file a complaint and Care does not research, they just kick you off. I hadn\u2019t even had an interview yet! Really disgusted at this.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So again, it\u2019s not good!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can read reviews of Care.com on Sitejabber <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sitejabber.com\/reviews\/care.com\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Care_com_Better_Business_Bureau_Profile\"\/>Care.com Better Business Bureau Profile<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>When you view the company\u2019s profile on the BBB, it\u2019s a little contradictory.<\/p>\n<p>The customer reviews are bad, just like they are on Trustpilot and Sitejabber.<\/p>\n<p>Care.com again has a 1-star rating on the BBB.<\/p>\n<p>Again, there were complaints and reviews saying that the site charged people even when they\u2019d canceled their membership.<\/p>\n<p>One user even said that they had safety concerns about a caregiver they hired through Care.com:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cPARENTS BEWARE: Care.com is where the criminals go. TWICE serious felons were unknowingly allowed into OUR HOME as caregivers. Do your own background checks, and please consider one of the many alternatives.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sadly, I did see similar stories in other reviews of caregivers who turned out to be criminals or who behaved unprofessionally.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the 250 negative reviews and complaints on the BBB, Care.com has an A+ rating from the BBB. I find this pretty perplexing (especially considering that there aren\u2019t that many <a href=\"https:\/\/moneypantry.com\/work-at-home-sites-with-a-bbb-rating\/\">work at home sites with A+ BBB rating<\/a>) and can\u2019t actually see why Care.com would warrant this rating given the huge number of negative reviews there are of the site.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can view Care.com\u2019s BBB profile <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbb.org\/us\/ma\/north-waltham\/profile\/pet-sitting\/carecom-0021-103708\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Care_com_Pros_and_Cons\"\/>Care.com Pros and Cons<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p>Okay, so now you know how the site works and what its customers have to say, let\u2019s take a look at a few pros and cons that can help you to decide whether or not to use the site:<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pros\"\/>Pros<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Here are the pros of this company.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It%E2%80%99s_super_easy_to_use\"\/>It\u2019s super easy to use<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>The site is incredibly easy to navigate. When you sign up, choosing options is quick and easy.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_get_access_to_a_database_of_professionals\"\/>You get access to a database of professionals<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for caregivers, Care.com allows you to search them all in one place. It\u2019s a huge marketplace for care, with millions of users.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"There_are_tons_of_caregiver_jobs_on_there\"\/>There are tons of caregiver jobs on there<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re looking for work as a pet-sitter or <a href=\"https:\/\/moneypantry.com\/make-money-tutoring\/\">a tutor<\/a>, it can be a good resource for finding work.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"There_are_tons_of_resources_available\"\/>There are tons of resources available<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re new to caregiving and have questions, the site\u2019s resource center is incredibly valuable.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cons\"\/>Cons<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h3>\n<p>Now, let\u2019s take a look at the cons.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"You_have_to_pay_to_get_in_touch_with_people\"\/>You have to pay to get in touch with people<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>The site says you can create a free account, but that\u2019s about as far as it goes.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u2019t actually chat with candidates or employers who reach out to you, without paying for a membership.<\/p>\n<p>So if you\u2019re not going to get consistent work from the site or you only need a babysitter occasionally, the cost of membership may not be worth it.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_site_is_not_clear_on_pricing\"\/>The site is not clear on pricing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>The company doesn\u2019t really have any details on its site on exactly how much its memberships cost.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, you can\u2019t view the cost of memberships, without creating an account on Care.com.<\/p>\n<p>Most sites that charge a subscription fee like Netflix or Spotify have a side by side comparison of their membership types and how much they cost. I couldn\u2019t find this for Care.com. This lack of transparency is not ideal for people who\u2019re trying to decide whether or not to use the site.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"There_are_some_less_than_ideal_caregivers_on_there\"\/>There are some less than ideal caregivers on there<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>While Care.com is home to legitimate caregivers, there are some less than ideal candidates on there. As I mentioned above, people have hired caregivers only to realize they have a criminal record.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"It%E2%80%99s_very_badly_reviewed\"\/>It\u2019s very badly reviewed<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h4>\n<p>When you look at the Care.com reviews online, it\u2019s really not good.
