<\/p>\nBreaking News<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n Kelly Asbury<\/strong>, who worked on some huge animated films, including directing the blockbuster \u201cShrek 2\u201d \u2026 is dead after a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Kelly died peacefully Friday in Encino, CA \u2026 according to his rep, and leaves behind an amazing resume in the world of animation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He\u2019s best known for directing the Oscar-nominated \u2018Shrek\u2019 sequel, but also worked on some of Disney\u2019s biggest animated hits \u2026 such as \u201cBeauty and the Beast.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n Kelly directed and wrote the screenplay for the 2011 flick, \u201cGnomeo & Juliet,\u201d Most recently, he directed \u201cUglyDolls,\u201d which came out last year.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Asbury earned his stripes in the animation industry at the Mouse House \u2014 from 1983 to 1995 he contributed storyboards for iconic movies like \u201cThe Little Mermaid,\u201d \u201cThe Rescuers Down Under\u201d and \u201cThe Black Cauldron,\u201d just to name a few.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n He moved over to DreamWorks in 1995, making his directorial debut in 2002 on the Oscar-nominated movie, \u2018Spirit.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Asbury eventually returned to Disney for a brief stint, working as a story artist for popular hits like \u201cWreck-It Ralph\u201d and \u201cFrozen.\u201d Safe to say, he put smiles on the faces of millions upon millions of movie-goers<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He was also a published children\u2019s book author, and even wrote a biography profiling ventriloquists like Jeff Dunham<\/strong><\/a>, Edgar Bergen<\/strong>, Shari Lewis<\/strong>, Jimmy Nelson <\/strong>and Paul Winchell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n The Hollywood Reporter first reported his death.
