Tom Hanks<\/strong><\/a> is not only a beloved actor, he\u2019s a trusted fatherly figure, so a fan asked for his advice on a very important aspect of raising a child \u2026 and Hanks delivered.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Zack Teperman<\/strong> is the president of a public relations firm and has a daughter, Chloe<\/strong>, who is 2 and a half. He tells TMZ he decided to send Hanks a handwritten letter in early May to get his thoughts on the classic \u201chigh-five, down low, too slow\u201d trick.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Zack says he asked at what age it\u2019s appropriate to pull his hand away from his daughter, and included a photo of him and his girl mid-high-five.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

A couple weeks later, he got a letter back from Tom \u2014 a typed response to his question \u2026 and it\u2019s just wonderful.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Hanks says in order to properly establish the tradition, you must first lock down the \u201cHigh Five! Down Low!\u201d combo with a kid to gain trust. As he puts it \u2026 \u201cA relationship is born.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Then, years later when the child has matured a bit and learned to poke fun at their father \u2014 Tom estimates around the age of 7 or 8 \u2014 the time has come to \u201canswer that child in affectionate kind.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

This is when it\u2019s appropriate to withdraw your hand on the \u201cDown Low!\u201d and hit \u2019em with the \u201cToo slow\u201d \u2026 and then, Hanks says, the kid grows up.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Tom adds that he has 4 grown kids, so he\u2019s experienced of course, but his 3 granddaughters have yet to get the \u201ctoo slow\u201d treatment. Only a matter of time, though, because as he concludes \u2026 \u201cThis stuff works.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
