Each was spent on a one-year contract that was considered at the time to be the single biggest in the history of American team sports.<a class=\"espn-footnote-link\" data-footnote-id=\"1\" href=\"#fn-1\" data-footnote-content=\"\n\n<p>Before Jordan indicated a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-1996-07-13-sp-23758-story.html\">one-year, $30.14  million contract<\/a> in 1996 , no NBA player had made more in a presented season than the $18.72  million that Patrick Ewing netted in 1995 -9 6. <\/p>\n<p> &#8220;>1<\/a> And each was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-1996-07-13-sp-23758-story.html\">reportedly<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.baltimoresun.com\/news\/bs-xpm-1997-08-28-1997240014-story.html\">negotiated<\/a> by worker David Falk in less than an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Not bad for the man Falk formerly testified as &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/news\/ct-xpm-1996-01-21-9601210140-story.html\">the most underpaid athlete in the history of professional athletics<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Jordan had made a combined $27.98 million <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/j\/jordami01.html#all_all_salaries\">over his first 11 seasons<\/a> in the tournament, so consecutive administers north of $30 million represented quite the promote. It has all along been bagged to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.basketballinsiders.com\/2019-20-nba-salary-cap-109-140-million\/\">more than $ 109 million<\/a>.
