\u201cInside the Actors Studio\u201d host and veteran TV writer James Lipton<\/strong><\/a> has died \u2026 TMZ has learned.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Lipton passed away peacefully Monday morning at his New York City home. His wife, Kedakai Turner<\/strong>, tells TMZ James had been battling bladder cancer. She adds, \u201cThere are so many James Lipton stories but I\u2019m sure he would like to be remembered as someone who loved what he did and had tremendous respect for all the people he worked with.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n The man had a storied career in and around television and film. Of course, he served as the Dean Emeritus of the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace University in NYC for several years. And, he was responsible for spearheading his famous talk show, \u201cInside the Actors Studio\u201d \u2014 James interviewed actors, big and small, to pick their brains about the craft.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n It was filmed in front of a live audience full of student actors, some of whom got a chance to ask questions from time to time. He started the show in 1994 and finally retired in 2018 after 22 seasons. The program continues to this day, however, with other hosts.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n Lipton has interviewed stars like Ben Affleck<\/strong>, Halle Berry<\/strong>, Jeff Bridges<\/strong>, Morgan Freeman<\/strong>, Ian McKellen<\/strong>, Eddie Murphy<\/strong>, Faye Dunaway<\/strong>, Robert Duvall<\/strong>, Ron Howard<\/strong>, Anthony Hopkins<\/strong>, Jim Carrey<\/strong>, Al Pacino<\/strong>, Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong>, Willem Dafoe<\/strong>, Brad Pitt<\/strong>, Henry Winkler<\/strong>, Betty White<\/strong>, Naomi Watts<\/strong>, Chris Rock<\/strong>, Whoopi Goldberg<\/strong>, Hugh Grant<\/strong> and on and on and on.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Bradley Cooper vs Sean Penn (1999) pic.twitter.com\/FaPTGGtRlk<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 jimmy alto (@jimmyalto) February 8, 2019<\/a> One of Lipton\u2019s more memorable guests was Bradley Cooper<\/strong><\/a>, who was once an Actors Studio student, and asked a pretty good question to Sean Penn<\/strong><\/a> about revisiting a character he\u2019d played before. He asked that in 1999 and returned as the interviewed guest in 2011.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n\n
