The cause of death was not disclosed.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"cb-15b8fd91b65b928db7caa86c823aa971\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-text-block canvas-text-block-permalink \" readability=\"39\">\n<p>Cussler wrote more than 2 dozen novels, including \u201cRaise the Titanic,\u201d in his series of Dirk Pitt novels. It became a movie in 1980. By the way \u2026 Dirk is also his son\u2019s name, and Cussler\u2019s last 3 books were co-authored by <strong>Dirk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"cb-c642e44698e74e778d65603fb51ba279\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-text-block canvas-text-block-permalink \" readability=\"30\">\n<p>\u201cSahara\u201d was the highest-grossing movie that was adapted from his novels. It grossed $122 million.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"cb-48f0c99644f2869db32147e3efb87102\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-youtube-video-block canvas-youtube-video-block-permalink \"\/>\n<section id=\"cb-1bb667b90b0a40e8177f3179bb947b50\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-text-block canvas-text-block-permalink \" readability=\"35\">\n<p>In all, Cussler sold more than 100 million books, and he\u2019s been published in more than 40 languages.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"cb-8711ac122a7a7b1707df6c9b7774ef4c\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-text-block canvas-text-block-permalink \" readability=\"45\">\n<p>Cussler was internationally recognized as an expert in shipwrecks. He founded the National Underwater and Marine Agency \u2026 an homage to naval history. One of his books, \u201cThe Sea Hunters,\u201d was so deep in knowledge, the Board of Governors of the Maritime College, State of New York, gave Cussler a doctorate and did not require a thesis \u2014 the book was enough.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"cb-533e64214c5cf7d53819c128c31064c0\" class=\"canvas-block canvas-block-permalink canvas-text-block canvas-text-block-permalink \" readability=\"31\">\n<p>Clive Cussler was married nearly 50 years. His wife died in 2003. Cussler leaves behind 3 children.
