Edd Byrnes<\/strong>, who became famous acting in movies like \u201cGrease\u201d and iconic TV shows like \u201c77 Sunset Strip\u201d is dead.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Byrnes died unexpectedly Wednesday at his Santa Monica home of natural causes.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n His career had a bunch of high points. Edd played Vince Fontaine in \u201cGrease,\u201d he was the host of the famous National Bandstand dance-off.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n As for \u201c77 Sunset Strip\u201d \u2014 which ran from 1958-1964 \u2014 it was one of the most popular shows on the boob tube. He became the breakout star \u2014 Kookie. For most of you who have never heard of the show, he was as big as Luke Perry<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s character in \u201890210\u2019 \u2026 and not dissimilar.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n Edd even scored a gold record for the hit with Connie Stevens<\/strong>, \u201cKookie, Kookie (Lend Me Your Comb),\u201d which hit #4 in 1959 and spent 13 weeks on the Billboard chart. The character Kookie was famous for combing his impressive locks with a comb.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Other credits include \u201cCharlie\u2019s Angels,\u201d \u201cFantasy Island,\u201d \u201cMarried With Children,\u201d \u201cMurder, She Wrote,\u201d \u201cMaverick,\u201d and, of course \u2014 where every star eventually landed \u2014 \u201cThe Love Boat.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He leaves behind his son, Logan<\/strong>, an evening news anchor in San Diego and his longtime partner, Catherine Gross<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Edd was 87.
