Ryan Phillippe<\/strong><\/a> and a bevy of other high-profile stars are catching tons of flak for promoting a Saudi Arabia event \u2014 but Ryan is digging his heels in and going to bat for the nation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Here\u2019s the deal \u2026 Ryan and a bunch of other stars like Sofia Richie<\/strong><\/a>, Armie Hammer<\/strong><\/a>, Irina Shayk<\/strong><\/a>, Scott Disick<\/strong><\/a> and other models and influences all went to this music festival called MDL BEAST in SA over the weekend, and they all seemed down to plug the hell out of it.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Ryan was in a festive spirit, as he rocked traditional Saudi headgear and face paint. While he called it a \u201ccultural exchange,\u201d others found it offensive \u2026 for more reasons than one.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The \u201cCruel Intentions\u201d star\u2019s Instagram comments got flooded with people shaming him for promoting a country that\u2019s known for their human rights violations \u2014 especially against women and the LGBTQ community, not to mention journalists they don\u2019t like<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Ryan didn\u2019t seem to care much about all that though \u2014 he fired back early and often.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

He responded to several of the comments \u2014 and his message was basically this \u2026 the country\u2019s changing, bro! He doubled down in his support of Saudi Arabia, saying he\u2019d feel good about bringing any woman who was important to him for a visit.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

On the other side of things, Sofia also caught tons of backlash for what many deemed tone-deaf posts, including one of her and two other ladies, which she captioned as \u201cSaudi girls.\u201d The caption has since been deleted, but Sofia was all over the place touting SA and MDL BEAST.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Ditto for Armie, who likened the event to \u201cWoodstock in the 1960\u2019s\u201d and going on to say that he felt things were progressing and moving forward there. Similar messages from most everyone else too, BTW \u2026 who all probably got paid a pretty penny to do this.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Emily Ratajkowski<\/strong><\/a> sounded off on the issue, saying she actually turned down payment because she felt the country\u2019s practices don\u2019t line up with her principles.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
