Mathew Knowles<\/strong><\/a> has been diagnosed with breast cancer.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Beyonce<\/strong><\/a> and Solange<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s dad is opening up about his personal battle for the first time \u2014 he\u2019s planning to discuss it on \u2018GMA\u2019 Wednesday morning. It\u2019s unclear how recently Mathew was diagnosed.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

While breast cancer in male patients is rare, some of the numbers are alarming \u2026 especially for Mathew.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Less than 1 percent of all breast cancer cases involve men. However, it\u2019s most frequently diagnosed in men between the ages of 60 and 70. Mathew is 67 years old.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

Also, the median age for black male patients with breast cancer is 63.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, the mortality rate for men is higher than it is for female patients.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

Mathew remarried Gena Avery<\/strong> in 2013. He\u2019s had 2 more children since he and Tina Knowles<\/strong><\/a> divorced.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n
