Getty<\/span>\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n Latin singer Jos\u00e9 Jos\u00e9<\/strong> has died after a battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n The Mexican cultural icon \u2014 known as \u201cEl Principe de la Cancion,\u201d aka \u201cThe Prince of Song\u201d \u2014 passed away Saturday, according to his assistant Laura Nunez<\/strong>. Per reports, he died in a South Florida hospital \u2014 and while cause of death hasn\u2019t been announced \u2026 it was known he was fighting pancreatic cancer \u2026 a diagnosis he went public with in 2017.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n In a video he published in March of that year, Jose Jose told fans he was ready to take on this new adventure, while assuring them he\u2019d fight through the illness.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n Jos\u00e9 Jos\u00e9 was a rock star in the \u201970s and \u201980s, cranking out records like \u201cEl Triste,\u201d \u201cEl Amar y el Querer,\u201d \u201cAlmohada,\u201d \u201cVamos a Darnos Tiempo,\u201d and tons of others throughout his 60-plus-year career. He received two Lifetime Achievement Awards \u2014 in 2004 and 2013, respectively \u2014 as well as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Award in \u201905.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He was also nominated for several Grammy awards over the years, but was never quite able to snag the prize. He did, however, have a bunch of hits land on the Billboard Chart.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n\n Jos\u00e9 Jos\u00e9 had 20 Hot Latin Songs hits, with four reaching No. 1 \u2014 and even had 15 of his albums on the Top Latin Albums chart. Per Nielsen Music, he sold over 1.8 million albums in the U.S. \u2026 not to mention the millions upon millions more across the world.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n Several of his albums went gold and platinum many times over in different Latin American countries.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n The guy also had a bit of an acting career too, starring in flicks and shows like \u201cSabor a mi,\u201d \u201cUn sueno de amor,\u201d \u201cPerdoname todo,\u201d \u201cThe Prettiest Ugly Girl\u201d and more. He even had his life story played out in a TV series in 2018, which was based on his memoirs.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n He\u2019s survived by his wife of 24 years, Sara<\/strong>, and his 6 children.
