9:10 AM PT<\/strong> \u2014 A rep for Carmine tells us he had actually been at Cedars-Sinai since April 25 when he took a nasty fall. He had been getting treatment for back injuries, but after nearly a month in the hospital he came down with pneumonia.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re told he was diagnosed last Thursday, and although doctors felt he was stable enough for release on Friday \u2026 his health started going south on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Although some of Carmine\u2019s friends have posted he was in a coma, the rep said he was responsive up until the day before his death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"CarmineCarmine Caridi<\/strong> has died from complications suffered during hospitalization for a bad fall \u2026 TMZ has learned.<\/p>\n

The \u2018Godfather\u2019 actor \u2014 who played Carmine Rosato in the first sequel \u2014 was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai hospital in L.A., and his health started slipping over the weekend. We\u2019re told he died on Wednesday.\u00a0Carmine\u2019s friend, actor and director\u00a0Chazz Palminteri<\/strong>, confirmed the passing to TMZ.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what caused Carmine\u2019s health crisis or what induced the coma, but we\u2019re told he never regained consciousness while he was in the hospital.<\/p>\n

Carmine is a veteran TV actor, who\u2019s starred in big shows like \u201cStarsky and Hutch,\u201d \u201cTaxi,\u201d \u201cFame\u201d and \u201cSimon & Simon.\u201d He also, notably, played Det. Vince Gotelli in \u201cNYPD Blue.\u201d<\/p>\n

Interestingly, he returned in \u201cThe Godfather Part III,\u201d but in a different role \u2014 he played Albert Volpe that time around.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In total, Carmine has more than 100 acting credits over six decades in showbiz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also known as one of the few people who\u2019ve been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for sharing movie screeners in \u201904 \u2014 which became the butt of Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s joke during the 2018 Oscars<\/strong><\/a> \u2026 when he compared Carmine to Harvey Weinstein<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Carmine took exception<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0with Kimmel\u2019s crack, telling us he shouldn\u2019t have been put in the same category as Weinstein \u2026 even if it was all in good fun.<\/p>\n

Carmine was 85.<\/p>\n
