\"ErnieJay-Z<\/strong><\/a> didn\u2019t bother reaching out to a musician whose song he sampled on one of his most popular albums, and now the dude wants his all these years later \u2026 according to a lawsuit.<\/p>\n

Soul artist and guitarist Ernie Hines<\/strong> recently filed suit against Jigga, Roc-A-Fella Records, Sony Music and Timbaland<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 who produced the track Ernie\u2019s griping about \u2014 claiming they jacked one of his songs from back in the \u201969 and used it on Jay\u2019s 1998 record \u201cVol. 2\u2026 Hard Knock Life\u201d without his permission \u2026 and without ever paying him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hines says his track \u201cHelp Me Put Out the Flame (In My Heart)\u201d was sampled for the \u2018Vol. 2\u2019 song \u201cPaper Chase\u201d \u2026 but didn\u2019t even become aware of it until last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

In the docs, obtained by TMZ, Hines asserts that he\u2019s a senior citizen \u2014 he is, the guy\u2019s 81 years old \u2014 and that he doesn\u2019t listen to rap music \u2026 only learning about the alleged unauthorized use of his song in 2018. Presumably, that\u2019s his excuse on why he\u2019s doing this now, well past the statute of limitations.<\/p>\n

Funny enough, \u2018Paper Chase\u2019 is listed on Tidal as having sampled \u2018Help Me\u2019 on a specific sampling page that lays out all the songs used to make that classic album. So, there\u2019s no question Timbaland used it to produce Jay\u2019s track.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There\u2019s more \u2026 Hines claims Timbaland also used \u2018Help Me\u2019 on Ginuwine\u2019s 1999 album, \u201c100% Ginuwine\u201d \u2014 once again without his permission or without any payment. Interestingly, Ginuwine isn\u2019t a defendant on the lawsuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hines says the songs have been played on a lot of platforms over the years, and that he\u2019s owed a lot of dough because of it. He\u2019s suing for damages exceeding $2 million. We\u2019ve reached out to Roc Nation for comment \u2026 so far, no word back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
