The Weeknd<\/strong><\/a> is gunning for eSports supremacy \u2014 buying an ownership stake in one of Canada\u2019s biggest gaming franchises, TMZ Sports<\/strong> has learned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The singer is now a part-owner of OverActive Media \u2014 which has teams competing in League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In fact, OAM\u2019s Overwatch team, the Toronto Defiant<\/strong><\/a>, is one of the top-ranked teams on the planet. OAM also owns Splyce, which competes in LoL.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a big esports fan, I am really excited to be involved in this project,\u201d The Weeknd said in a statement \u2026 noting he will collaborate with OAM in \u201cunique and innovative ways.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Weeknd is just the latest mainstream star to buy into<\/strong><\/a> an eSports franchise \u2014 following Michael Jordan<\/strong><\/a>, Drake<\/strong><\/a>, Magic Johnson<\/strong><\/a> and Rick Fox<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The big question now \u2026 when are these guys all gonna pick up the sticks and compete against each other?!\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
