Jay-Z & Beyonce<\/span><\/p>\n Emotional Speeches Honor Family \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n At GLAAD Media Awards<\/span><\/p>\n 3\/29\/2019 6:34 AM PDT<\/p>\n Jay-Z<\/strong><\/a> and Beyonce<\/strong><\/a> added another award to their mantle, but this one was highly personal \u2026 and incredibly emotional.<\/p>\n The power couple received\u00a0the Vanguard Award at the 30th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at The Beverly Hilton Thursday night, and used their time onstage to praise the LGBTQ community \u2026 and members of their family who are a part of it.<\/p>\n Jay went first and shouted out his mother \u2014 who came out as a lesbian on his track, \u201cSmile,\u201d and received a Special Recognition Award last year \u2014 for allowing him to follow her shining example of love and acceptance.<\/p>\n Beyonce then praised her Uncle Johnny, who she calls \u201cthe most fabulous gay I ever knew\u201d and says helped raise her and her sister, Solange<\/strong><\/a>. Bey says her uncle lived his truth and was brave and unapologetic when it wasn\u2019t easy to do so \u2026 and witnessing his HIV battle was \u201cone of the most painful experiences I\u2019ve ever lived.\u201d<\/p>\n She says she hopes his struggles helped pave the way for young people to live freely, and stresses that LGBTQ rights are human rights.<\/p>\n Bey also praised her man, saying Jay\u2019s helped change stigmas in the hip-hop culture \u2026 and she\u2019s proud to be making those strides by his side.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/h5>\n
