Peloton CEO<\/span><\/p>\n Pulling Classes with Lawsuit Songs<\/span><\/p>\n \u2026 But We Have Plan B<\/span><\/p>\n 3\/25\/2019 1:34 PM PDT<\/p>\n EXCLUSIVE<\/span><\/p>\n Your next Peloton ride could be really quiet \u2014 it\u2019s recalling any classes featuring the songs the company\u2019s accused of using without permission.<\/p>\n John Foley<\/strong> \u2014 Peloton\u2019s founder and CEO \u2014 sent a letter<\/strong><\/a> to his more than 600k subscribers Monday, letting them know the company is yanking any classes that use the songs ID\u2019d in that lawsuit a handful of music publishing companies filed.\u00a0<\/p>\n TMZ broke the story \u2026 the publishers claim Peloton was using a bunch of hit songs from big-time artists without permission \u2014 upwards of at least a thousand tracks, apparently \u2014 ranging from Rihanna<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s \u201cUmbrella\u201d to Pat Benatar<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s \u201cHit Me With Your Best Shot.\u201d<\/p>\n Those companies are suing<\/strong><\/a> for major damages \u2026 up to $150 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n In his letter, Foley says the fitness company is only doing this as a precaution \u2026 and assures users that their cycling experience will not be affected by the change. He says Peloton has deals in place with lots of other music publishers and labels that give them access to a \u201cbroad catalog\u201d of music that he suggests will be able to replace the temporarily silenced tunes.<\/p>\n On the lawsuit itself, Foley says it\u2019s unfortunate that it had to be filed \u2026 since he claims Peloton was in talks with at least a few of the publishers before they pulled the trigger.<\/p>\n\n<\/h5>\n
