Fans were completely caught off guard after the original ending \u2014 showing Allie and Noah get into their hospital bed together, hold hands and die \u2014 is completely cut out. This is the original ending:<\/p>\n<p>[youtube https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9LI0RR9jGq8&#038;w=728&#038;h=410]<\/p>\n<p>The alternative ending that\u2019s got fans foaming at the mouth shows no one dying, the couple holding hands and talking about miracles before cutting to a scene showing birds flying over a lake.<\/p>\n<p>Netflix tells us there are a couple things fans should know \u2014 Netflix did NOT edit the film. The streaming giants went on to say, \u201cAn alternate version exists and was supplied to us \u2014 we are getting to the bottom of it asap. Apparently, some films have more than one ending?!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BTW \u2026 the author of the book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/person\/nicholas-sparks\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Nicholas Sparks<\/strong><\/a>, was on the \u201cToday\u201d show and said he prefers the original ending. For what it\u2019s worth \u2026 \u201cThe Notebook\u201d hits Netflix in the states on March 1.
