Kelly<\/strong><\/a> knew good and well that his one-time protege (and future wife) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/person\/aaliyah\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Aaliyah<\/strong><\/a> was a 14-year-old child the same year he married her \u2014 which debunks a claim put forth by his lawyer that the singer was oblivious to her being a minor.<\/p>\n<p>An old video of a documentary about R. Kelly from 1994 has resurfaced online and in this section \u2026 Kelly clearly acknowledges Aaliyah\u2019s age (apparently, 14 at the time this was shot) as she records a song in the studio, with him serving as producer.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"728\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4BeHQDiSzcI?&amp;rel=0&amp;start=65\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In the YouTube clip, you hear Kelly say clear as day \u2026 \u201cRight now I\u2019m producing a very talented lady \u2014 young lady. She\u2019s 14, Aaliyah. She\u2019s real street.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\" readability=\"11.8525896414\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">R. Kelly\u2019s lawyer is fighting back against sexual assault claims made in the docuseries \u2018Surviving R. Despite this evidence of Kelly clearly being aware of Aaliyah\u2019s age, the singer\u2019s new attorney, <strong>Steven Greenberg<\/strong>, insisted to ABC News last week that his client was unaware of her being 15.<\/p>\n<p>He says she must\u2019ve lied about her age to legally marry Kelly, and that Kelly had \u201cno idea.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>R. Kelly hasn\u2019t said much about his marriage to Aaliyah or her age, but he told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gq.com\/story\/r-kelly-confessions?mbid=social_facebook\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>GQ<\/strong><\/a> in 2016, \u201cI can tell you I loved her, I can tell you she loved me, we was very close. We were, you know, best best best best friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"728\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TGCHvpMco3A\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kelly and Aaliyah appeared together for a BET interview in 1994, where they denied they were in a romantic relationship \u2026 and played coy about her age, calling it a \u201csecret.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In light of this new video, Greenberg tells us \u2026 he misspoke during the ABC interview, and probably shouldn\u2019t have put words in R. Kelly\u2019s mouth, as he says he never spoke to Kelly about Aaliyah specifically.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Greenberg also says \u2026 \u201cThat was 20 years ago. I didn\u2019t know him 20 years ago, I didn\u2019t represent him 20 years ago.
