Josh Gad Joins Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper’s Ocean’s Eleven Prequel

Josh Gad has joined the cast of Warner Bros.’ new Ocean’s Eleven prequel, adding another recognizable name to the heist franchise’s next chapter.

The actor is joining a cast led by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, according to Variety. Just Jared reported that Gad, 45, is the latest actor added to the ensemble as the project moves closer to production.

Gad’s character details have not been revealed. Variety reported that he has a significant role in the untitled film, which already includes Robbie, Cooper, Wagner Moura and Monica Barbaro.

The movie is expected to open in theaters on June 25, 2027.

Gad Confirmed the Casting News on Instagram

Gad reacted to the news on Instagram after reports of his casting surfaced. “So excited to be joining this incredible all-star cast,” he wrote in a post linking to coverage of the film.

The role adds another major studio project to Gad’s upcoming slate. The actor is known for voicing Olaf in Disney’s Frozen films and for starring in projects including Beauty and the Beast, The Book of Mormon and Murder on the Orient Express.

His casting also gives the new Ocean’s movie a performer with comedy and musical-theater roots, though Warner Bros. has not said whether his character will be part of the central heist crew, a rival figure or another piece of the film’s 1960s world.

The Prequel Goes Back to Danny Ocean’s Parents

Robbie revealed at Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation that the prequel will focus on Danny’s parents and show the two people who taught him what he later brought to the Vegas heists.

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows, his parents,” Robbie said, according to Just Jared.

Robbie also said the movie will follow them “pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” The setting gives the prequel a different period backdrop from Steven Soderbergh’s modern trilogy, which centered on casinos, revenge jobs and high-style crew work in Las Vegas and Europe.

Robbie is expected to play Danny Ocean’s mother, while Cooper is expected to play his father. Moura has been reported as the film’s primary villain, while Barbaro is also part of the ensemble.

Bradley Cooper Is Directing and Producing With Robbie

Cooper is taking on several jobs behind the camera as well as starring. Just Jared reported that he is directing the film, producing it with Robbie and wrote the screenplay.

Robbie is producing through LuckyChap, the company behind Barbie, Promising Young Woman and Saltburn. Cooper’s recent directing work includes A Star Is Born and Maestro, both of which also featured him in leading roles.

The prequel has gone through several development shifts before reaching this stage. Earlier versions were linked to other filmmakers, but the current package places Cooper at the center of the project creatively while Robbie anchors the film as both star and producer.

The Ocean’s Franchise Has Two Paths Forward

The prequel is separate from the planned Ocean’s 14, which is expected to continue the modern film series that began with Soderbergh’s 2001 Ocean’s Eleven. Just Jared reported that the fourth installment with the original modern cast is also in the works.

That project is expected to involve George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Don Cheadle and Casey Affleck. Clooney has previously said the script exists, and the film has been discussed as a continuation of the crew last seen together in Ocean’s Thirteen.

The broader franchise began with the 1960 Ocean’s 11, starring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. Soderbergh’s 2001 remake led to Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007, followed by the female-led spinoff Ocean’s 8 in 2018.
