Introducing the Biggest Aura Farmers in Anime Historical past

In any tournament arc in any anime, there’s a great hype moment. One moment where a character enters the arena and just changes the equation for everyone.

Sasuke does it in Naruto when he arrives to fight Gaara in the final round of the Chunin exams. Ichigo does it when he comes to save Rukia, and Zoro does it every time he fights an opponent. Aura farming happens whenever a character enters and instantly generates hype. They are not the strongest characters on the show, but they bring around an aura that makes them uniquely threatening.

So, let’s rank the top aura farmers in anime:

7. Sung Jin-Woo (Solo Leveling)

Solo Leveling is the kind of series that you either love or hate. The writing is sparse, and the side characters are of little consequence. However, it has endless hype, which stems from the hero, Sung Jin-Woo.

Ever since he got his powers, his aura has only been escalating. Entering a S-class dungeon and completely decimating it with necromancy, destroying other heroes with his general, Igris, and carrying the title of “Shadow Monarch.”

The only reason we are ranking Sung Jin-Woo so behind is that he’s almost all hype. If you’ve seen the anime, you’ll understand that the stakes for each fight seem to become lower as the show progresses.

We’ve covered more Sung Jin-Woo and the current isekai craze in our 2025 recap for anime.

6. Killua (Hunter X Hunter)

Killua is what happens when the “mysterious transfer student” trope grows up and learns assassination techniques. From the moment he skates into the Hunter Exam with that dead-eyed smile, he radiates the kind of confidence that makes veteran fighters nervous and kids like Gon immediately obsessed. He’s not the strongest in Hunter x Hunter, but nobody walks into a scene and shifts the mood quite like Killua.

He looks like a bored, candy-eating kid, but everything about how he moves reminds you he was raised to kill. Then Nen arrives, and his “aura” stops being metaphorical and becomes literal. Killua’s Godspeed scenes are pure hype farming: the crackling electricity, the instant repositioning, the way he calmly narrates what he’s about to do while his opponent realizes they’ve already lost.

5. Piccolo (Dragon Ball Z)

Piccolo is two things: the most excellent anime father ever to exist, and the first aura farmer who was really HIM. Before Vegeta showed up with the prince complex and before Goku started stacking new forms like DLC, Piccolo was the original “everyone shut up, the real one just walked in” character. Every time he steps onto the battlefield in Z, the tone changes. The air gets heavier, characters stop talking, and even the villain pauses like, “Okay, who’s this?”

In a series obsessed with transformations and screaming, Piccolo farms aura by doing the opposite: standing still, saying little, and backing up every quiet word with absolute conviction. He walked so half the cool, stoic mentors and antiheroes in modern shonen could fly.

4. Madara Uchiha (Naruto & Naruto: Shippuden)

Five of the most powerful nations in the world have united to attack you, and you start just clobbering through their armies. Madara Uchiha is an elite-level aura farmer who literally changes the Naruto story to be around him.

He literally schemes to the point that the entire world comes together to fight him. And then he destroys the whole army and the five kage.

Madara is a complete menace, a generational hater, and someone whose story is extremely compelling. In the Naruto world, it’s hard to find anyone greater than him.

3. Kenpachi (Bleach) & Byakuya (Bleach)

Tite Kubo created a world where fashion and visuals were integral to the story. While the arcs might follow a similar circular pattern, every single character and environment looks different and unique.

And very few people among the Bleach cast have the aura farming tendencies of Byakuya and Kenpachi. The captains of Squad 6 and Squad 11 are among the most impressive entrances in all of anime. Byakuya starts his story by destroying the main character just by walking by him, and Kenpachi starts his by stabbing Ichigo in the chest.

What makes Bleach so interesting is that the show is filled with aura farmers. It’s an incredibly visual show, and that means that the main characters show off their prowess by using aura. And if you’ve seen the latest season of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, you know how dangerous these two can be.

2. Zoro (One Piece)

There are several aura farmers in One Piece. Usopp’s entire role in the Strawhats is aura farming, and you can make similar arguments for Rob Lucci, Saint Saturn, and even Shanks. But, if you have watched the Thriller Bark arc and seen Zoro saying, ”Nothing happened,” then you know that nothing beats it.

Zoro’s entire shtick is that he’s the guy who puts everything on the line for his fights. And when he pulls out the Asura pose, or does another cool move with three swords, you just feel like something shifted in your psyche.

1. Aizen (Bleach)

Yes, Bleach has three characters on this list. This is because every arc in Bleach is filled with battles. Even Baki and Record or Ragnarok have fewer 1v1s than Bleach. And these types of battles are great spaces for aura farming.

But Aizen is literally built different, because his aura moments don’t even occur during battles. First, when Ichigo attacks him, he catches his Zanpakutō, literally stopping the entrance music. Second, he replaces himself with Hinamori Momo during an extended scene with the captains and the visoreds. Aizen matches Madara Uchiha in capability and outpaces everyone in his aura farming expertise. And that makes him amazing.

Aura farming has become way more common in anime today. Part of it is because of the large number of isekai releases over the past few years. But part of it is also because it’s just fun to see characters becoming their own hype trains. But, before you start thinking that all the aura belongs to the new crop of anime heroes (Sakamoto, Sukuna, Gojo, and others), you should remember the OGs. This list is a tribute to the characters and monsters that have made aura farming into the art it is today.
