One of best Advertising cabinet photos you will ever see...Lena and Esther sisters from Mt. Ayr Iowa

A long time ago…before you and I existed….in another dimension,
In the mid-west…particularly Iowa women would dress wearing
merchants products…Here we have groceries and Hardware
represented.
They were often called "Merchant Carnivals" this is from 1898
A lot of Work From Home went into these dresses…and there were pageants and
prizes associated with these events.

It is my favorite by far of all my Images…
so if I could I would make my whole flickr…. this Image…
Its one of greatest advertising Images you may ever see…

(I do own this one of a kind image…please advise before any commercial endeavor)

Ethel Genevive DUNNING born 01 Apr 1881, Mount Ayr, IA (on left)
Lena Rachel DUNNING born 31 Aug 1886, Mount Ayr, IA (on right)

I found the Obituary of Day Dunning. Day was Lena’s father. I did not find mention of Esther but I will instead give you what I found on Ethel Dunning.
Day Dunning was 3rd son of Barton & Laura Dunning, they being the first settlers of Mount Ayr Iowa. Day died in July 1923 and at the time of his death,
Lena lived in Buffalo, NY. Her name at that time was Lena Kirby. Her husband’s name may have been G. M. Kirby as a former Mount Ayr native named
G. M. "Gum" Kirby also lived in Buffalo in the 1930s.
Ethel Dunning was named Ethel Judson of Redfield, Iowa in July 1923. Ethel was also the daughter of Day Dunning.
Day’s oldest brother was Walter Dunning. He died in 1924 and left a son and daughter, the daughter being Mrs. Richard Phillips of Denver, Co.
It is possible that Mrs. Richard Phillips is Esther. I have the names of all other Dunning girls and Esther does not appear.
Lena graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1904 and Ethel in 1901.
As you know, Lena and Ethel had a famous paternal grandfather, Barton Dunning. Well, their maternal grandfather was also famous. The girls’ mother was
Paroda Keller, daughter of Judge Isaac W. Keller. The town of Kellerton, Iowa is named for him. Isaac Keller was a judge, politician, lawyer, farmer,
county treasurer, Civil War veteran, county supervisor, etc.
